Working Methods.
Working with me would be a bespoke combination of the following methods:
Talking Therapy.
“Therapists must convey to the patient that their paramount task is to build a relationship together that will itself become the agent of change.”
Irvin D. Yalom
Painting.
“Art therapists who use a psychoanalytic approach encourage the process of pictorial expression of inner experience, and in this sense, art is recognised as a process of spontaneous imagery released from the unconscious.”
Case & Daley
Sand Tray Therapy.
"Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain."
Carl Jung
Empty Chair.
“The empty chair allows the person to come into dialogue with a polarity within themself."
Joseph Zinker
EMDR.
"EMDR is an acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, an innovative clinical treatment originated and developed by Dr Francine Shapiro in 1987. EMDR is effective in treating individuals who have experienced psychological difficulties arising from traumatic experiences, such as assault, road traffic accidents, war trauma, torture, natural or man-made disasters, sexual abuse and childhood neglect. EMDR is also increasingly used to treat symptoms which are not necessarily trauma-related, such as panic disorder, phobias, performance anxiety, self-esteem issues and other anxiety-related disorders.”

What is the difference between psychotherapy and counselling?
“A counsellor focuses on helping individuals address specific life challenges and cope with difficulties. They might offer strategies for managing emotions, improving communication, or dealing with difficult situations.
A psychotherapist, on the other hand, may delve deeper into underlying issues and use techniques that address the root causes of problems. This can involve challenging beliefs, behaviours, or patterns that may be contributing to difficulties.”
Paul E. Meehl (1996)
Paul E. Meehl was an American clinical psychologist, philosopher of science, and one of the earliest thinkers to contribute to the theoretical grounds for predicting clinical outcomes using quantitative methods.
He used the analogy of a broken leg. He said that a counsellor would give the client the equivalent of a pair of crutches, so they can get around more easily. The psychotherapist would do the equivalent of breaking the leg and resetting it, thus getting to the root of the problem and healing it.
